The Babylonian creation and flood tablets, translated and set against the book of Genesis. George Smith was a banknote engraver who taught himself cuneiform in his lunch hours at the British Museum, found the flood tablet in 1872, and reportedly began undressing in the gallery in his excitement. This edition adds 60 bound plates after Panini, Alma-Tadema, Claude Lorrain and others, plus 23 restored and coloured illustrations.
