The story takes place in Cloisterham, an imaginary city inspired by Dickens by Rochester, Kent, whose topography, architecture and atmosphere, well known to him, spent part of his childhood in the nearby town of Chatham , Are faithfully cited4,5. It concerns especially the young Edwin Drood, orphan promised by will to Rosa Bud, also orphan, union matching a coquette fortune. Edwin Drood is closely linked to his uncle Jasper, a divided character, a follower of London opium smoking, and a choirmaster, choirmaster at the city's cathedral and secretly in love with his future niece. Other rather mysterious characters, such as the twins Neville and Helena Landless from Ceylon, complicate the relationships between the various actors in the story.
