Ute is an Austrian employee in a publishing company in Linz; a single mother every second week, out drinking whenever she’s kid-free. When the Danish poet Mogens arrives in town to promote his collection of poems, they strike up a romance. The novel Ute is about gender, sexuality, intoxication, art, and literature, with ample amounts of good-humored fun-poking at the culture industry, while old Donau flows quietly and mournfully through the city and novel alike.
