ā€œWhether making my heart melt or my head burst into flames, Annabeth Albert draws the reader in and keeps them captivated.ā€ ā€”Gay Book Reviews

In the wake of tragedy, SEAL Mark Whitley rushed stateside to act as guardian to his sisterā€™s three young children. But a conflicting will could give custody to someone elseā€”someone Mark remembers as a too young, too hot, wild party boy. Even after six years, Mark canā€™t shake the memory of his close encounter with Isaiah James, or face up to what it says about his own sexuality.

Isaiahā€™s totally over the crush that made him proposition Mark all those years ago. In fact, heā€™s done with crushing on the wrong men altogether. For now, heā€™s throwing himself into proving heā€™s the best person to care for his cousinā€™s kids. But thereā€™s no denying thereā€™s something sexy about a big, tough military man with a baby in his arms.

As the legal details get sorted out, their long-buried attraction resurfaces, leading to intimate evenings after the kids are tucked in. A forever future is within reach for all of them, if only Mark can find the courage he needs to trust Isaiah with his secretsā€”and his heart.

4.5 āļø rounded up. I knew Iā€™d be a fan of the story when it turned out that one of the (main) characters is demisexual. Annabeth did a great job when it comes to describing Markā€™s thought process and feelings, to the point that even the romantic/ explicit scenes seemed authentic. However, I must say that I wasnā€™t a big fan of the ending. It felt rushed, especially considering that both Mark and Isaiah kept emphasizing how they wanted to take things slow. Likeā€¦ we got a slow burn the first 25 chapters and then suddenlyā€¦ well, youā€™ll know when you get there. But still, cute romance, very cute family moments and a big yay for the demisexuality / ace / grey ace representation. šŸ’œ

Honestly kinda loved it. Rare to find a good book about demi or ace sexuality.
