¿En qué consiste el beneficiarse verdaderamente de la Palabra? ¿No nos da 2da. Timoteo 3: 16-17 una respuesta clara a esta pregunta? Leemos allí: "Toda Escritura es inspirada por Dios, y útil para enseñar, para redargüir, para corregir, para instruir en justicia, a fin de que el hombre de Dios sea perfecto, enteramente preparado para toda buena obra." Obsérvese lo que aquí se omite: la Santa Escritura nos es dada, no para la gratificación intelectual o la especulación carnal, sino para prepararnos para "toda buena obra", y para enseñarnos, corregirnos, instruirnos. Vamos a esforzarnos en ampliar esto con la ayuda de otros pasajes.
