I worked at my last job. I was always so fussy about how unkept the desks of my colleagues used to be.â
She took a sip from the mug of coffee. âWhy not join me?â
âFor coffee? No, I already - â
âPlease, honey. I wouldnât take much of your time. Besides, I am soon going to be rushing off for work.â
âOkay.â He sat down on the other stool and poured himself some coffee.
She reached across the table and squeezed his hand. âDanny, my darling husband, I am really impressed with how you have been handling things around the house all these past couple of weeks.â
âYou mean all the while that I have been unemployed.â
âWell, in a way, yes. Yes, since you lost your job.â
âWell, like I told you earlier, it is nothing. I am doing it for us. So I donât see it as anything. Besides, it keeps me busy and also keeps me in shape.â
âYes. Have you had any luck with your applications?â
âNo, not yet. Some of the recruiters that I have been in touch with feel that I am over qualified. They donât even want to consider me for lesser roles. Others just keep on spinning the same yarn about how they have no vacancies at the moment, that they would let me know whenever there are any.â
She reached forward and squeezed his hand. âI know that it can be quite tough to get all those rejections.â
He shrugged. âI am already used to it. I donât let it deter me at all. Which is why once I finish housekeeping, I jump back on my computer and fire off more applications. One can never get tired of searching, you know?â
âI admire your spirit, Danny honey.â
âThank you.â
âBy the way, do you remember Aunt Meg?â
âAunt Meg?â
âYes.â
