Poetry lovers look no further! Elizabeth Barret Browningâs passionate collection of 44 love sonnets is all you'll ever need.
Following the Italian model made popular by Petrarch, Browningâs intimate prose spans the famous âSonnet 43â, an emotional expression of everlasting love for her husband. Named after Richard Browningâs nickname for Elizabeth, and to protect her privacy as a means of suggesting a translated work, 'Sonnets from the Portuguese' weaves a heartfelt collection ideal for romance fans of Nicholas Sparkâs âThe Notebookâ.
Elizabeth Barret Browning (1806-1861) was an English poet, who wrote during the Victorian era. Following her marriage to the writer Robert Browning, Elizabeth moved to Italy where she lived for the rest of her life. Her poetry such as âThe Cry of the Childrenâ urged child-labour reforms, whilst âA Drama in Exileâ, âA Vision of Poetsâ and âLady Geraldineâs Courtshipâ appeared in her widely successful 1844 two-volume âPoemsâ. Browning is remembered today as a rival candidate for poet laureate Tennyson on the death of Wordsworth.
