On the day of your birth, you receive two blessings and a curse. But nobody ever tells you the curse.
That's the arrangement in the Passage Realm. Two bloodlines hold the magic. The Order decides what it means. A Blessing Giver does not question.
Then, in the middle of Rayelle's own consecration, the temple doors slam open, and they throw a bleeding man onto the floor at her feet.
His eyes give him away before he speaks. Mixed blood. Under the laws of the Goddess, that is a death sentence.
It should be easy. Rayelle has spent her whole life learning to look away.
But the magic picks that moment to open her sight for the first time, and what it shows her is not a child's blessing. It's her own life. Every year of it. With him woven into it.
She tells no one. If she does, one of them dies.
Question the Order, and risk losing her life.
Ignore the vision, and offend the Goddess.
Act on it and risk breaking the magic...
