The Gentleman

Edward Stono is the illegitimate son of a seamstress, born into poverty but determined to become a "Gentleman". The story begins in 1841 and covers a span of 20 years. Join Edward as he moves through a series of adventures, loves, and intrigues that take him from Charleston, to Cuba, to Africa and back to the United States in his quest to become The Gentleman.
