August Strindberg (1849-1912) ses allmänt som den störste svenske författaren, inte minst internationellt, och representerar det moderna genombrottet i svensk litteratur. Han inledde sitt författarskap som dramatiker och skrev sina första pjäser i början av 1870-talet.
