âIf youâre interested, the agency will pay you very well for every child you bring to me, no questions asked.â Mrs. Williams told her.
âWhat do you expect me to do? Pop out a baby every year?â Carol said jokingly. âI donât think so!â
âOf course not!â Mrs. Williams laughed for a moment, and then turned serious. âI just told you, no questions asked. I donât care where you get the child, or how.â
âI donât see how...surely you donât mean, kidnap or...?â Carol gasped.
âI didnât suggest anything like that. That was your idea, not mine.â She looked at Carol without so much as a blink.
âAny infant will be acceptable, however the fee could be considerable if you bring me a child of the requested race, and gender, and coloring. How, and where, you get the child is your affair, none of my business.â
