"The Young Visiters; or, Mr. Salteena's Plan" is novel which deals with the upper-class society of late 19th century England, following the story of a love triangle. Alfred Salteena is a man of about forty years and he invites 17-year-old Ethel Monticue to stay with him. The two of them visit Alfred's friend Bernard Clark, and Ethel and Bernard become attracted to each other. When Alfred rushes off to London to visit the Earl of Clincham, he leaves Ethel alone and unsupervised with Bernard.
