"El extraño", o "El intruso" (título original: The Outsider), es un cuento de terror, escrito en 1921 y publicado en 1926, por el autor Howard Phillips Lovecraft. H. P. Lovecraft, es uno de los principales y más creativos escritores del género de terror; se dio a destacar, gracias a su horror que va más allá de lo terrestre y de lo natural, valiéndose de un gran ingenio, originalidad y un estilo barroco, con el que crea maravillas, que atrapan a quien lo lee, tanto por la trama, como por los adjetivos usados. El Extraño, verdadero clásico entre los relatos de H.P. Lovecraft, narra la historia de un ser que despierta sin memoria en medio de antiguas ruinas, después de años de soledad. Con algún esfuerzo, logra abrirse paso hacia un misterioso castillo, donde finalmente encuentra que las respuestas a sus preguntas conducen a una terrible e inexorable verdad.
