Quentin Durward, jeune noble écossais, débarque en France sous le règne de Louis XI après la mort de sa famille, survenue lors d'une bataille qui a réduit son village en ruines. Il entre, en qualité d'archer, au service du roi, dans la garde écossaise de ce dernier. Louis XI va lui confier la mission d'accompagner une jeune demoiselle, de bonne famille, et sa tante vers, l'évêché de Liège. Quentin va déjouer bien des complots, faire preuve de courage, de bravoure, d'intelligence et d'à propos, enfin être un parfait chevalier. Il va aussi trouver l'amour... Ce roman nous permet de connaitre, un peu, le caractère de ce roi, plein de contradictions, et fin politique.

Walter Scott
Sir Walter Scott was born in Scotland in 1771 and achieved international fame with his work. In 1813 he was offered the position of Poet Laureate, but turned it down. Scott mainly wrote poetry before trying his hand at novels. His first novel, Waverley, was published anonymously, as were many novels that he wrote later, despite the fact that his identity became widely known.
