As they entered the clearing, Smoky growled softly and looked toward the cabin. Paying no attention, Tom walked up on the porch. He stopped in his tracks.
Somebody had been here since he left. Smoky's growl should have given him warning of that.
Tom stared at the paper that was stuck in the door, pulled it out, and read it twice.
