The metaphysical club is the name of a group of XIX century American philosophers (James, Pierce, Dewey) who will have a great impact on their country when the USA was about to excel. Louis Menand makes these ideas understandable in their own merit, in the context of other contemporary ideas and historical circumstances. His writing is precise and elegant. Characters are depicted so vividly that are brought to the reader in flesh and mind. A great read!
