"The Natural History of Wiltshire '' is a memoir by John Aubrey which gives the account of curious and entertaining facts and suggestions, at once characterizing the writer, the age in which he lived, and illustrating the history and topography of his native county. John Aubrey FRS (1626 – 1697) was an English antiquary, natural philosopher, and writer. He was a pioneer archaeologist, who recorded (often for the first time) numerous megalithic and other field monuments in southern England, and who is particularly noted for his systematic examination of the Avebury henge monument.
