#BookTok phenomenon and award-winning author Alex Aster delivers readers a masterfully written, utterly gripping YA fantasy novel
Welcome to the Centennial.
Every 100 years, the island of Lightlark appears to host the Centennial, a deadly game that only the rulers of six realms are invited to play. The invitation is a summons—a call to embrace victory and ruin, baubles and blood. The Centennial offers the six rulers one final chance to break the curses that have plagued their realms for centuries. Each ruler has something to hide. Each realm's curse is uniquely wicked. To destroy the curses, one ruler must die.
Isla Crown is the young ruler of Wildling—a realm of temptresses cursed to kill anyone they fall in love with. They are feared and despised, and are counting on Isla to end their suffering by succeeding at the Centennial.
To survive, Isla must lie, cheat, and betray…even as love complicates everything.
Filled with secrets, deception, romance, and twists worthy of the darkest thrillers, Lightlark is a must-read for fans of legendary fantasy writers Marie Lu, Marissa Meyer, and Leigh Bardugo.

This book is amazing, and I think it gets hate for no reason. The writing isn’t great – I’ll admit that – but I stand by the opinion that if the world-building, plot, and characters are good, then it doesn’t really matter (for example, Fourth Wing and the whole series, too). I usually don’t like love triangles, but this one was really good. The book itself started off a bit slow, but then it picked up. There were so many plot twists at the end that I didn’t see coming. There was a lot of betrayal, romance, and I absolutely devoured every second of it. And oh my god, the cliffhanger at the end – I thought I was going to die. I didn’t know whose team I was on in this book, but Nightbane solved that (team Grim, by the way). I was so excited for Nightbane (which didn’t disappoint). Overall, I think it was amazing. The plot was great, I absolutely love the FMC and both of the MMCs. The cliffhanger was brutal, Alex (I cried), and the plot twists at the end were incredible (I cried even more, especially because of the betrayal). I give it 4.5 stars. Please don’t always listen to people on BookTok. Have your own opinion and give it a try. But don’t go into this book expecting it to be the best-written piece of literature you’ve ever read, because it’s not. However, it’s fun, interesting, and I really enjoyed the story.
