Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, and essayist. Born and educated in Edinburgh, Stevenson suffered from severe ill-health, but travelled widely despite this, spending time in London, America, and France before settling eventually in Samoa. He is best known for his novels âTreasure Islandâ and âThe Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hydeâ as well as his much-loved volume of childrenâs poetry âA Childâs Garden of Versesâ. He died in Samoa in 1894 at the age of 44.
