Sample Book Insights:
#1 The Order of Interbeing is named after the Vietnamese word tiếp hiện, which means to receive. We receive goodness, beauty, insight, and a sense of morality from our ancestors. We receive the wonderful Dharma, the teachings that lead to insight and awakening.
#2 The third meaning of Tiếp is to be in touch with life. We are in touch with the present moment when we are in touch with the wonders of life, but we are not in touch with the suffering that exists within us and around us.
#3 The second part of the Order’s name, Hiện 現, means the present moment. What we touch in the present moment is life itself. We touch the Pure Land or the Kingdom of God. We must see and be in touch with the suffering taking place in the world.
#4 The fourth meaning of hiện is to adapt to modern needs. This means that the Dharma that we practice and teach has to be appropriate for the intended audience, in accordance with the spirit of the Buddha’s teachings, and suitable for the times we are living in.
