One surprise deserves another.

ā€œThink youā€™ll need any help, Sergeant?ā€ Lieutenant Wynn asked Matt Rudd.

ā€œI donā€™t think so, sir,ā€ Rudd said.

ā€œKuzniki is a dangerous, but he doesnā€™t know Iā€™m here.ā€

ā€œO.K.,ā€ Wynn said. ā€œIā€™m going to lunch.ā€

With his back to the door, Rudd hadnā€™t seen Kuzniki enter the hotel lobby. As he turned around, Kuznikiā€™s hand darted to a shoulder holster and he swept out a .38 automatic. Rudd froze in position, then slowly raised his hands.

ā€œYou must be slowing down, Matt,ā€ Kuzniki said. ā€œFirst time Iā€™ve been able to take you.ā€

ā€œItā€™ll be the last, too,ā€ Rudd said angrily.

ā€œThatā€™s right, Mattā€”Iā€™ll see to that.ā€
