Lynda Van Devanter was the girl next door, the cheerleader who went to Catholic schools, enjoyed sports, and got along well with her four sisters and parents. After high school she attended nursing school and then did something that would shatter her secure world for the rest of her life: in 1969, she joined the army and was shipped to Vietnam. Home Before Morning is her story.

As China Beach was my fave tv show growing up I just had to listen to this book. This book is gruesome, painful, sets a perfect zeitgeist for the 60s and 70s in the US. It is also a story of friendship and comradery and looking out for each other in the most difficult circumstances. Just press play and I promise: you won’t be disappointed!
