¿Por qué el tema de el doble ha sido preferido por autores y lectores a lo largo del tiempo? En última instancia me pregunto a mí mismo por qué este tema ha sido de interés infatigable para mí. ¿Es que toca un tema universal? ¿Es el doble un verdadero fantasma de todos los seres humanos? ¿Es un gran mito creado por el cerebro humano? La lectura y la relectura de estos cuentos me han planteado diversas preguntas. Sospecho que toca el corazón de la elección del tema en la narrativa y también que toca lo más íntimo del Yo del narrador. La apabullante conclusión es que los cuentos de el doble tocan una fibra sensible de todos los seres humanos; en estos cuentos siempre se encuentra algo de uno mismo. ¿Tenemos todos un doble? Si tenemos un inconsciente o tenemos un alma, la respuesta a esta pregunta es indudablemente positiva.
