Greven av Monte Cristo är en roman av Alexandre Dumas d.ä. från 1844, först publicerad 1845-46 som följetong i Journal des débats och är en av världens mest lästa äventyrsromaner. Den oskyldigt dömde Edmond Dantès, som suttit fängslad i 14 år, förväxlas med en avliden fånge, och lyckas fly ur fängelset. Den avlidne avslöjade innan sin död platsen där en berömd försvunnen skatt skall finnas. När Dantés flytt, hittat skatten och utnämnt sig själv till Greve så gör han till sin livsuppgift att hämnas på de som fick honom oskyldigt fängslad.
