An earthquake drops Dorothy, a cab-horse and a boy into a country under the ground where the vegetable people grow on vines and the Wizard turns up with nine tiny piglets. Baum was writing to order by 1908, six books in, and the underground kingdoms let him invent as fast as he liked. The Wizard is a better man here than he was in the first book. Its 64 original illustrations have been carefully restored and coloured for this edition.
