A Munchkin boy, Kiki Aru, learns the word that changes a man into any animal, uses it badly, and joins the exiled Nome King in a plot to conquer Oz, while Dorothy and her friends hunt for a birthday present for Ozma. Baum wrote it dying, and it was published in 1919 a month after his death. The magic here is linguistic: the trick is pronunciation. Its 84 original illustrations have been carefully restored and coloured for this edition.
