''In the Shadow of the Tower'' is the third book in The Dana Girls Mystery Stories series, written under the famous pseudonym Carolyn Keene (the same pen name used for the Nancy Drew series). Originally published in 1934, this classic juvenile mystery follows sister sleuths Jean and Louise Dana as they solve a puzzle involving a wealthy orphan, a runaway, and a mysterious shadow.
While on Christmas vacation from their boarding school, Starhurst, Louise and Jean Dana assist a handicapped orphan named Josy Sykes. Josy loses a one-thousand-dollar bill to a fox, and though a hunter eventually returns it, she runs away after a humiliating accident. The girls delve into a mystery regarding the source of Josy's money and a strange figure lurking near an old tower.
