À propos de ce livre

Complete and unabridged, with 97 full-page plates by Théodore Gudin, Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot and Francisco Goya. Both series of the ghost stories — fifteen in all — a Cambridge provost wrote to read aloud to friends at Christmas: the scrapbook that should not have been bought, the whistle blown on a lonely beach, the ash tree outside the window. James was a medievalist by trade and put the horror in the margins of manuscripts and cathedral records, where he worked. Ninety-seven plates of cathedral interiors and lonely streets by Redon, Munch and others give the antiquarian's haunted margins their proper weather.
