This is the second installment in the Mermen of Ea series. The narrative follows protagonist Taren as he journeys to the Gateway Islands to locate a legendary rune stone, a powerful artifact the mainland Ea believe will protect them from hostile island merfolk. After their ship is attacked, Taren becomes separated from his lover Ian and washes ashore, where he meets a mysterious boy named Brynn who promises to lead him to Odhran, a pirate rumored to possess the stone. The plot explores themes of destiny, reincarnation, and past lives, as Taren uncovers memories from his previous incarnation as Treande.
