Systematische Theologie und Bibelexegese gehen heute oftmals getrennte Wege. Einer der Gründe ist die Rehabilitierung des Historismus. In Teilen heutiger Systematischer Theologie spielen religionsphilosophische Reflexionen eine größere Rolle als die Texte der Bibel. Die Studien des vorliegenden Bandes begreifen Bibelexegese als theologisches Unterfangen, das historische und systematische Fragestellungen vereint, und Systematische Theologie als konsequenter Exegese. So vielstimmig, spannungsreich und bisweilen widersprüchlich die in den biblischen Schriften zu vernehmenden Stimmen auch klingen mögen, weisen sie doch über sich hinaus auf einen Konvergenzpunkt, der mit dem Wort "Gott" benannt wird. Systematische Schriftauslegung versucht diesem Richtungspfeil der biblischen Texte zu folgen.

Systematic theology and biblical exegesis today often go separate ways. One of the reasons is the rehabilitation of historicism. In parts of contemporary systematic theology, reflections on the philosophy of religion play a greater role than the texts of the Bible. The studies in this volume conceive of biblical exegesis as a theological task that unites historical and systematic issues, as well as systematic theology as consequent exegesis. However polyphonic, tense, and sometimes contradictory the voices heard in the biblical writings may sound, they transcend themselves to a point of convergence named by the word "God." Systematic interpretation of Scripture tries to follow this directional arrow of the biblical texts.
