Om denne bog

"El libro negro de Alsophocus" es un relato de H.P. Lovecraft escrito en colaboración -una colaboración póstuma, como se la suele denominar-, aunque de hecho solo los primeros párrafos le corresponden. Martin S. Warner, sin dudas, voluntarioso, convirtió aquel experimento en una historia que se inscribe dentro del ciclo de relatos de los Mitos de Cthulhu. En resumen: El libro negro de Alsophocus se apoya en el inicio de El libro (The Book), de H.P. Lovecraft, y a partir de ahí construye una historia en la cual el tenebroso Nyarlathotep busca apoderarse del cuerpo un hombre que ha adquirido uno de los tantos libros apócrifos de los Mitos de Cthulhu: El Libro Negro, escrito por el nigromante Alsophocus. Es incierta la posibilidad de que, en el cuento original, ese libro fuese el Necronomicón. No obstante, El libro negro de Alsophocus hace referencia a otros ejemplares malditos de la biblioteca lovecraftiana, como De Vermis Mysteriis (Los misterios del gusano), de Ludvig Prinn, y Cultes des Goules (Cultos de los Ghouls), de Comte d'Erlette, e incluso al propio Abdul Alhazred, autor del Necronomicón. Es entonces que aquel lector aventurado eventualmente aprende mucho sobre ocultismo, magia negra y nigromancia de las páginas Libro Negro, lo cual le permite abrir una especie de portal interdimensional hacia las regiones inconcebibles en donde habita Nyarlathotep, Sharnoth, y otros Primigenios.
