Als Wássja am Vortag des Neujahrstages zu seinem Freund und Mitbewohner Arkádij heimkehrt, offenbart er ihm, sich verlobt zu haben. Voll Überschwang besuchen die beiden Freunde die zukünftige Braut und ihre Mutter.
