The Constable de Bourbon turns against Francis the First, leads the imperial army into Italy and dies at the sack of Rome in 1527. Ainsworth wrote it from the chronicles and the sack is not prettified. This edition is bound with 39 plates after François Clouet, Léonard Limousin, Corneille de Lyon and others, portraits of the Valois court from 1412 to 1925.
