China has concentration camps now. Why do Westerners claim our sins are unique?
It is now in vogue to celebrate non-Western cultures and disparage Western ones. Some of this is a much-needed reckoning, but much of it fatally undermines the very things that created the greatest, most humane civilization in the world.
In The War on the West, Douglas Murray shows how many well-meaning people have been fooled by hypocritical and inconsistent anti-West rhetoric. After all, if we must discard the ideas of Kant, Hume, and Mill for their opinions on race, shouldn’t we discard Marx, whose work is peppered with racial slurs and anti-Semitism? Embers of racism remain to be stamped out in America, but what about the raging racist inferno in the Middle East and Asia?
It’s not just dishonest scholars who benefit from this intellectual fraud but hostile nations and human rights abusers hoping to distract from their own ongoing villainy. Dictators who slaughter their own people are happy to jump on the “America is a racist country” bandwagon and mimic the language of antiracism and “pro-justice” movements as PR while making authoritarian conquests.
If the West is to survive, it must be defended. The War on the West is not only an incisive takedown of foolish anti-Western arguments but also a rigorous new apologetic for civilization itself.

DOUGLAS MURRAY reads “THE WAR AGAINST THE WEST” - from 2022 - with a clear voice! Outstanding. Perhaps the most important book on history and politics of our generation - right now. Hundreds of concrete examples of hatred against “white” people and the whole Western Society. We are supposed to hate ourselves - because of our own origins and societies - in US, in UK - and in EU. Churchill was a bad racist, Shakespeare has no value. All white people who sang Negro Spirituals in the 1950s – as it was called back then – have no value. They should have understood that they were racist performers. Even trying to use the cultural heritage of black people! What a shame! According to The British Library, all books by authors from the last 300 years, who had any connection to slave traders, or British colonial companies - can not be read anymore. Their long lists consist of hundreds of names – right up to the present day. Murray shows that many of these writers, on the contrary, wrote against colonialism - and even against the slave trade. Nothing negative has been said about the very common Arab slave trade. They castrated all slaves. And continued almost up to our time. Painters interested in white light and dark shadows are supposed to be Western racists. Plants supposedly discovered in Africa and Asia has to be redescribed, they were already known to the old inhabitants. And so on, and so on, and so on! Douglas Murray warns us – we can no longer tolerate being hated as a group – by others - who want very much to live in our countries. We will not that our children must learn in our schooles - to hate our own society – and our 3000 years of history. Homer’s Odysseus and the philosophers Sokrates, Platon and Aristoteles do not have to leave our history books. A reader told Douglas Murray that it was a great book, but very depressing to read. Douglas replied: “What did you think it was like to write it?”
