In ''Beverly Gray's Vacation,'' Beverly and her core group of friends—Lenora, Larry, Jim, Terry, Roger, and Anthony Anton—set sail for Canada by way of the Panama Canal, chaperoned by Miss Ernwood.
The vacation quickly turns into a mystery when they discover two stowaways on board their ship, the Susabella: Michael "Mike" McKay decided to join the group at the very last minute; Phyllis Tanner is a terrified young woman running away from mysterious men. Phyllis received a valuable fur coat she assumed was from her brother, but when she reached out, he ordered her to hide the fur immediately. She snuck onto the ship both to evade her stalkers and because the ship's final Canadian destination is the exact town where her brother lives.
