The legends of the Rhine gorge - the Lorelei, the mouse tower, the drowned bells - retold by a French writer who traveled the river collecting them. Saintine wrote the enormously popular Picciola and turned to the Rhine material in his later years. This edition includes 60 bound plates after Schirmer, Blechen, Grottger and Schindler, and the translation by M. Schele de Vere.
