Profeten

Khalil Gibran (1883-1931) var en libanesisk kunstner, poet og forfatter. Han ble født og vokste opp i Libanon, men levde deretter mesteparten av sitt produktive liv i USA. Som følge av familiens fattigdom, fikk ikke Gibran noen skolering som ung i Libanon. Men presten kom ofte, og lærte ham om Bibelen, og de syriske og arabiske språkene. På denne tiden begynte Gibran å få ideer til det som senere skulle bli hans store verker. Spesielt fikk han inspirasjon til boken Profeten på denne tiden.
