Om denne boken

Fyodor Dostoevsky’s The Idiot follows Prince Lev Myshkin, a kind and compassionate young man who returns to Russia after years of treatment for epilepsy in Switzerland. His sincerity and refusal to judge others immediately set him apart from the cynical and calculating society around him.

Upon arriving in St. Petersburg, Myshkin becomes entangled with the wealthy Yepanchin family and encounters two women whose lives will become inseparably connected with his own: the beautiful and troubled Nastasya Filippovna and the devoted but proud Aglaya Yepanchina. As romantic rivalries, jealousy, obsession, and social ambition intensify, Myshkin’s compassion repeatedly clashes with the destructive passions of those around him.

Through its complex characters and psychological drama, The Idiot explores innocence, morality, love, suffering, faith, and the possibility of goodness in a deeply flawed world. Dostoevsky asks whether genuine compassion can survive in a society governed by pride, desire, and self-interest.
